Hey guys!! Today I thought of doing a review on Heartless by Marissa Meyer. I have heard mixed feelings about this book but I was super plumped up to read this book since I loved her Cinder so much. And I wasnt disappointed!

Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.

At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.

Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

You’re the daughter of a marquess. Look around. Look at the things you have, the life you’re accustomed to. You don’t know what it’s like to work every day so you can feed yourself and keep a roof over your head. You don’t know what it’s like to be poor. To be a servant.

I was really excited to read this book since I have read Marissa Meyer’s Cinder and it was superb. But when i read the reviews for this book there was a few negative reviews. So i was a little scared at first – like what would happen if it didn’t live up to my expectations – but IT DID!!

I was filled with various emotions when I was reading this book. To be honest, I have never read Alice in Wonderland before so i didn’t know exactly what to expect. I knew about the Mad Hattar and about the Notorious Queen of Hearts but not exactly what they did. And i think that kind of helped me. So if you are worried that you havent read Alice in wonderland but still wanna read this book, then go ahead and read it.

“It is a dangerous thing to unbelieve something only because it frightens you.”

First I want to talk about the characters in this book. The description as well as the dialogues of the characters was so clear and vivid i could imagine them speaking and roaming in front of me. I really liked the vintage setting and the Kingdom of Hearts is  a place i want to visit someday!

The story was quirk and quick.

I really like the character development of Catherine. Her development from the girl next door to the Queen was something which was very remarkable in the book. I really liked her passion for baking and her dream of opening a bakery.

“A heart, once stolen, can never be taken back.”

You see Meyer has this power of making you feel angry at one moment and then the next moment you are smiling (or laughing). That is one power she has over her writing.

And my forever favourite in this book will be Jest. He was so quirky and intelligent. From his first appearance i was all head over heel for him. Perfect, Confident and Intelligent are few of the adjectives that could be used to define him. I ADORE HIM.

So overall it was one of the amazing books I have read and definitely one of Meyer’s best work.
